About Us

Valsad Raktdan Kendra (VRK) is a Non-Government Charitable Organization (NGO) working since 1984 in the field of blood banking and hematological research. Valsad Raktdan Kendra is registered under Society Reg. Rule XXI of 1860 (No. Guj/ 143/ Valsad) having recognition of 80-G and 12-A under Income Tax Act 1961. VRK is recognized as SIRO’s (Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) by Department of Science and Technology and as MNGO (Mother-NGO) by department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

  • Registered under society registration rule 21 of 1860.
  • Working as a voluntary regional blood centre and hematology research center since 1984.
  • Recognized as Regional Blood Transfusion Center (RBTC) by Gujarat State Council of Blood Transfusion (GSCBT) for Valsad and Dang districts.
  • Valsad Raktdan Kendra (VRK) is the pioneer institute to initiate comprehensive sickle cell anemia program and awareness activities in rural areas of south Gujarat in 1984.
  • VRK is also active partner of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to carry out research work on sickle Cell anemia and thalassemia.

Milestones And Awards

1984

Establishment of Valsad Raktdan Kendra (VRK)

2001

Shirin & Jamshed Guzder Regional Blood Centre with 100% blood component facility was inaugurated in the new premises.

2002

Award for Excellent Blood Transfusion services in the state by Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat.

2006

Government of Gujarat nominated VRK as a nodal agency for a Go-NGO (Public – Private) partnership program for implementation of Sickle Cell Anemia Control Program in the state health services.

2007

Government of India nominated VRK as a Mother NGO (MNGO) to support Mother & Child Care, where Government services are underserved in tribal areas of South Gujarat.

2008

On World Health day, Government of Gujarat awarded a trophy to VRK as the Best NGO in the state of Gujarat for successfully implementing Sickle Cell Anemia Control Program in the state.

2011

On World Blood Donor’s Day (14th June), Indian Red Cross Society, Gujarat State, Felicitated VRK for dedicated outstanding services in the field of Voluntary Blood Transfusion Services.

2012

VRK awarded National Best Institutional Award by Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology (ISBTI) for overall functioning as Regional Blood Centre.

2014

Awarded Star Performance Awards for best Targeted Intervention Program amongst FSW and MSM as well as amongst Single Migrant Industrial Workers for Prevention and Awareness of HIV/AIDS in Gujarat state by Gujarat State AIDS Control Society (GSACS).

2019

Dr. Yazdi Italia awarded Lifetime Achievement award at, 44th National conference of ISBTI, Transcon-2019.

2020

  • Registered under society registration rule 21 of 1860.
  • Mrs. Priti Mistry, Ast. Ditector VRK awarded H.D.Shoure award at 45th National conference of ISBTI (Virtual Conference) Transcon-2020 held at Chennai.

2022

Valsad Raktdan Kendra becomes National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH). First NABH blood center in Valsad District.

2024

Dr. Yazdi Italia is honored with the Padma Shri award for his contributions to the field of Medicine.
